Author's Bio

Ann Howells has three 2016 publications: her book, Under a Lone Star, from Village Books Press; her chapbook, Letters for My Daughter (Flutter Press), and an anthology of Dallas/Ft. Worth poets which she edited, Cattlemen & Cadillacs (Dallas Poets Community Press.
She serves on the board of Dallas Poets Community, a 501-c-3 non-profit, as president from 2009-2012 and again in 2014. She is a member of the Academy of American Poets, was named a "Distinguished Poet of Dallas" in 2001, and has been senior editor of Illya’s Honey since 1999, recently taking the journal to an online format.

Her poems appear in many literary journals and anthologies both here and abroad. Ann has been interviewed on Writers Around Annapolis television, read on NPR (Atlanta), and nominated four times for Pushcarts.
She participates in bringing poetry into the schools, elementary through university, and is a frequent reader at conferences and festivals around Texas and beyond. She holds a BS from Shepherd University and worked as a cryomycology research assistant in Maryland. After moving to Texas in 1979, she taught oil painting for a local business and for the City of Carrollton.
