Author's Bio

ANNE CALCAGNO

I am a bilingual, dual citizen: Italian and American, who grew up in Rome and Milan, and have traveled the Italian peninsula from the Northern Alps to the western tip of Sicily.

My first novel, Love Like a Dog, about pit bull fighting rings in Chicago, won a 1st place award from the "New Generation Indie Awards," the Bronze from the 15th Annual Independent Book Publisher Awards, and an Honorable Mention from the San Francisco Book Festival. It was self-published through CreateSpace.

Stories in my feminist collection Pray For Yourself, I won the James D. Phelan Literary Award, an NEA Fellowship, and two IAC Artist Fellowships. My fiction has been published in TriQuarterly, Other Voices, Epic, The North American Review, Denver Quarterly, and other publications. Recent work has been performed at Fictlicious and the Sunday Salon. My fiction is in four anthologies.

I am also the editor of Travelers Tales: Italy, which won Foreword's Silver Medal for Best Travel Book of the Year. My articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, New City, Chicago Sun-Times and various travel anthologies. I write travel features regularly for the Washington Post.

I teach in the MFAW/BFAW @ the School of The Art institute in Chicago.
