Author's Bio

Bill’s book, “Asphalt Heart” will be published by The Main Street Rag in 2018 and its chapbook version was a finalist in The Comstock Review’s 2017 Jessie Bryce Niles Chapbook Contest. Bill is the winner of the 2017 Broken Ribbon Poetry Contest, is a finalist in the 2018 Tucson Festival of Books Literary Awards for Poetry, is a finalist in the 44th New Millennium 2017 Awards, and a long-list finalist in The Beverly Award in the United Kingdom. Bill was notified that he might be on the short-list of 16 finalists, but had to withdraw “Asphalt Heart” because it was accepted for publication by The Main Street Rag. He has published poetry in Rattle, Asheville Poetry Review, Hawaii Review, Portland Review, Laurel Review, Birmingham Poetry Review, Wisconsin Review and others. He is winner of the Emerson Prize for Poetry and The Margaret Ward Martin Prize for Creative Writing. He has been anthologized in Wild Sweet Notes; And Now The Magpie; and What the Mountains Yield. He is a graduate student in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at Ashland University and has completed all his course work and presents his final thesis in 2018.

Bill is also the winner of Antioch’s 2018 Writers Workshop Judson Jerome Scholarship and a finalist in The Beverly Prize in the United Kingdom. He also was a short-list and long-list finalist for 3 poems in The Fish Anthology for 2022 judged by Bill Collins and won Second Prize in New Stone Circle's Poetry Contest. Bill's recent book was a semi-finalist in the 2020 Willo Run Poetry Book Award.
