On Saturday, September 27, over sixty southern California poets will come together for a fourteen-hour poetry marathon to benefit Avenue 50 Studio, a multicultural gallery and exhibition space in the city's Highland Park district. "From Daylight to Midnight" will feature readings and book giveaways and is being held at the studio in an attempt to keep its doors open after it suffered a robbery in June.

Reflecting the studio's mission to "celebrate the rich diversity of Los Angeles and attempt to heal rifts between different ethnic communities," the event is attracting a diverse roster of poets. Participating writers include Steve Abee, Brendan Constantine, Sesshu Foster, Eloise Klein Healy, Sarah Maclay, and Luís Rodríguez.

The benefit has already received support from City Lights Books, Copper Canyon Press, and BOA Editions, in the form of donated books of poetry, which will be given away every hour.

A suggested donation of ten dollars grants access to all of the day's events. More information and a complete list of participating poets is available on the Avenue 50 Web site.
