Author's Bio

Mr. Nelson is a graduate of the University of Washington's year long Certificate Program in Playwriting, and is also a published poet, having been nominated three times for the Pushcart Prize. His first full-length play, INTO THE WILD BLUE YONDER, was staged in 2001 by ArtsWest as a showcase production. His short play, "The Great Chain of Being", was part of Theatre Babylon's Nine Holes Rising Short Play Festival 2003… and forms the introductory scene to his last play in the "Festival of Claude" Trilogy, SAVING HARRY (re-written as PERSONAL GROWTH THROUGH COPIER SALES), which saw production in 2006 at the Thelma DeWitt Theater in Youngstown. A production of his most recent finished play, OLLIE’S DAY OUT, garnered a standing ovation at the Stone Soup Theater in 2008.

”For many years I wrote and worked in the theater, did a little stand-up comedy thinking that perhaps I had to shout a little louder, step out a bit more. But now, I am tired of all that. They say Poetry nowadays has no audience. Oh, blessed state!
Writing essays on my blog seems to keep me from ruining my poetry. And currently I live out in the woods by the Ohio River, probably 200 miles from the nearest large city - where I write poems that mosey about.” - Carl Nelson

"I'm a dog for thought,
for it has collared me
and made me its pet.
Rather than the other way 'round."

Currently I run the Serenity Poetry Series which meets the second Friday of each month in Vienna, WV.
