Debra L. Edwards is a poet, diarist, short story writer, essayist, novelist, playwright, film script, proposal writer, and journalist. The author's poetry appeared in various literary journals and magazines locally and internationally, notably B.A.D. (Breakfast All Day), Barefoot Grass Journal, Cover Magazine, Quarter Horse, Poetry New York, The National Poetry Magazine of the Lower Eastside, Limelight Newspaper, Gulf Times Newspaper, The Home Planet News, The World of Poetry (prize winning poem &quot;Night Shadows&quot;) and chapbook entitled Black Rose. Literary articles have appeared in The Unspeakable Visions of the Individual literary journal and Gulf TImes newspaper.

The author's journalism and advertising articles have been published in QGPC Magazine, Gulf Times, and the Columbia Missourian newsapers, respectively. The author also created a full service advertising campaign for Rayyan Water Bottling Company for Dallah Advertising Agency, Doha, Qatar.

In addition to creative and journalistic writing the author wrote a fundraising project for the Mandela Foundation as a proposal for youth development called the Continental African Sports Camps Project. And a written proposal for a Directory of African Tourism for the purpose of reinforcing African development.

Readings have been conducted in New York at St. Clemens Church, The Baby Grand-Harlem, The Theater for the New City (read and organized multicultural extravaganza for Black history month 1993), St. Marks, CBGB's, Cedar Tavern, Wetlands, Cafe Nico, Knitting Factory, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Spiral Cafe, Muriel Mendez Garden, Ellington Room (Manhattan Plaza), Ear Inn, New York Public Library- St. Agnes Branch, CCNY Graduate Center, and the National Arts Club.

The author was born in St. Louis, MO, and after graduating from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, where she earned a Bachelors of Journalism Degree, she traveled throughout the United States, Europe, Arabia, and Africa, as a freelance writer, editor, disc jockey, radio and advertising account executive, absorbing cultural diversity and learning a few words and phrases of French and Arabic. The author does photography and creates collage art pieces as a hobby, exercises for liberation and fitness, and is Dione Aquandar Tongal's mother for life. A long time resident of New York City, the author is at present pursuing creative writing ambitions full time.
