Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns Tops 2007 Book Sense Best-Seller List

The American Booksellers Association released recently its 2007 Book Sense Best-seller list, which highlights the most popular titles sold at independent bookstores during the previous year. Fifteen books were featured in the categories of hardcover fiction, paperback fiction, hardcover nonfiction, paperback nonfiction, children’s fiction, and children’s illustrated.

The hardcover fiction best-sellers were:
1. A Thousand Splendid Suns (Riverhead) by Khaled Hosseini
2. The Yiddish Policemen's Union (HarperCollins) by Michael Chabon
3. The Children of Hurin (Houghton Mifflin) by J.R.R. Tolkien
4. For One More Day (Hyperion) by Mitch Albom
5. Nineteen Minutes (Atria) by Jodi Picoult
6. On Chesil Beach (Nan A. Talese) by Ian McEwan
7. Lean Mean Thirteen (St. Martin’s Press) by Janet Evanovich
8. The Good Husband of Zebra Drive (Pantheon) by Alexander McCall Smith
9. Playing for Pizza (Doubleday) by John Grisham
10. What Is the What (McSweeney’s) by Dave Eggers
11. The Maytrees (HarperCollins) by Annie Dillard
12. Water for Elephants (Algonquin) by Sara Gruen
13. Bridge of Sighs (Knopf) by Richard Russo
14. Run (Harper) by Ann Patchett
15. Plum Lovin' (St. Martin’s Press) by Janet Evanovich

Gruen’s Water for Elephants also appears in the top spot on the paperback best-seller list, featured along with Hosseini’s 2003 novel The Kite Runner (Riverhead), which came in third, and Picoult’s 2004 novel My Sister’s Keeper (Atria), which was tenth.
