The Loft Literary Center announced yesterday that Jocelyn Hale will be the nonprofit organization's new executive director. Hale, who has twenty-five years of experience working in public relations, marketing, and fundraising for different companies and nonprofit arts organizations, will succeed Linda Myers, who announced her retirement in March.

"I can’t imagine a better choice to lead the Loft to new heights than Jocelyn Hale," Myers was quoted as saying in a press release. "The search committee held an open selection process and considered applicants from across the United States. Loft staff, members, donors, and board members evaluated the finalists, and on every measure, Jocelyn Hale came out at the top."

Hale is also a freelance writer whose commentaries have been aired on National Public Radio. She has been a columnist for the Minneapolis-based Southwest Journal since 2001.

The Loft, which was founded in 1974 in Minneapolis, is planning a formal transition ceremony, featuring former poet laureate Billy Collins, on October 26.
