Monica Macansantos

Monica Macansantos is the author of the forthcoming memoir in essays, Returning to My Father's Kitchen, to be published by Northwestern University Press under its Curbstone imprint, as well as the story collection, Love and Other Rituals, published by Grattan Street Press in 2022. She was a James A. Michener Fellow for Writing at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her MFA in Fiction and Poetry, and also holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the Victoria University of Wellington, where she held a Doctoral Scholarship. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Colorado Review, The Hopkins Review, Bennington Review, Literary Hub, Electric Literature, River Styx, and Katherine Mansfield and Children (Edinburgh University Press), among other places. Her fiction has been recognized with finalist and honorable mention citations in the Glimmer Train Fiction Open, and her nonfiction has been named Notable in the Best American Essays 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2016. Her work has also been translated into Czech (Kuřata v hadí kleci: Prague, Argo Press, 2020) and Spanish (Arbolarium, Antologia Poetica de los Cinco Continentes: Bogota, Colegio Bilingüe José Max León, 2019). She has also been awarded residencies at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, Hedgebrook, Storyknife Writers Retreat, the I-Park Foundation, and Monson Arts.
