Scott Starbuck

Since 2019 Scott T. Starbuck taught ecopoetry workshops at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the UC San Diego Masters of Advanced Studies Program in Climate Science and Policy (MAS CSP). His book, Bridge at the End of the World, New and Selected Poems, won a 2023 Blue Light Book Award. In 2014 Starbuck said The National Poetry Series accepting support from Exxon was like God asking Satan if he could spare some change for the cause. His book of climate crisis poems, Hawk on Wire (Fomite, 2017), was selected from over 1,500 entries as a Montaigne Medal Finalist at Eric Hoffer Awards for "the most thought-provoking books" < https://www.asle.org/stay-informed/membe... >.Written at a PLAYA climate change residency, it was a July 2017 "Editor's Pick" at Newpages.com along with The Collected Stories of Ray Bradbury, and was featured at Yale Climate Connections. In 2016 he called TV news stations on behalf of San Diego area tribes as hundreds of activists rallied in downtown San Diego in solidarity with water protectors against Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota.
