Sonya Vatomsky

Sonya Vatomsky is the author of poetry collection Salt Is For Curing (2015, Two Dollar Radio/Sator Press), which examines trauma and survival through the lenses of folklore, ritual, and language. The book received praise from Roxane Gay, Amanda Lovelace, and Dennis Cooper, and its poems have been taught in schools and universities, included in anthologies, and translated into multiple languages. They also wrote two poetry chapbooks: My Heart In Aspic (2015, Porkbelly Press) and And the Whale (2020, Paper Nautilus), which won the 2019 Vella Chapbook Contest.

Sonya's work as a journalist has been published by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Smithsonian Magazine, and their short fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Anomaly and Nocturne Magazine. They are currently at work on their first novel.

Sonya is a member of the Cheburashka Collective, a group of female and non-binary writers from the Soviet diaspora. They were born in the former USSR, live in Manchester, England, and haunt at sonyavatomsky.com and @coolniceghost.
