Funding/Employment Opportunities: 

The program offers full funding totaling $29,000 per year plus generous guaranteed summer funding and additional opportunities. All students receive teaching assistantships in both creative writing and freshman composition. In addition to their teaching stipends, all students receive complete tuition remission plus scholarships.

Other Features: 

Fiction writers and poets are admitted in alternating years. Persons wishing to write poetry should apply in even-numbered years, for entry in the fall of odd-numbered years. Persons wishing to write fiction should apply in odd-numbered years, for entry in the fall of even-numbered years. UW–Madison’s English Department permits its PhD students the opportunity to request a minor in creative writing. The program does not offer a PhD in creative writing.

For admission in fall 2024, the program will accept fiction students.
