This program features the Gertrude Vanderbilt and Harold S. Vanderbilt Visiting Writers Series and the Writers in Residence Program. It also offers writing workshops for cancer survivors through the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

First-year students work as Graduate Writing Consultants in the Writing Studio, and second-year students teach one semester of a beginning creative writing workshop. Opportunities are also available for students to learn about alternative employment opportunities for writers other than teaching. Travel funding is available for conference presentations.
