The 38th annual Write on the Sound conference was held in person at the Frances Anderson Center in Edmonds, Washington, from October 6 to October 8; online preconference sessions were held on September 30. The conference featured craft sessions, one-on-one manuscript consultations, a writing contest, and information sessions on publishing and marketing for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers. The keynote address was given by fiction writer Jamie Ford, followed by a featured presentation given by travel writer Rick Steves. The faculty included poets Douglas Cole, Amelia Díaz Ettinger, Mary Lou Sanelli, and Arianne True; fiction writers A. J. Bermudez, Laurie Buchanan, E. Danielle Butler, Curt Colbert, Melissa Cook, April Dávila, John DeDakis, Stephanie Dethlefs, Scott Driscoll, Kat Falls, Leslie J. Hall, Glen Erik Hamilton, Valerie Ihsan, Kizzie Jones, Meg Eden Kuyatt, Laura Moe, Marianne Monson, Christine Pinto, Catherine Raven, Ariele Sieling, Lisa C. Taylor, Marty Wingate, and Penelope Wright; and nonfiction writers Mary Boone, Doug Crandell, Gail Folkins, Ann Hedreen, Jill McCabe Johnson, Beth Jusino, and Adrienne Ross Scanlan. Participating publishing professionals included freelance editors Carol Cartaino and Sheryl Stebbins, Melissa Vail Coffman (Book House Publishing), and Eric Miller (3iBooks). The cost of the three-day in-person conference was $265 ($290 for registration after August 31). The cost of online preconference sessions was $25 each; Friday half-day workshops cost $90 each; and registration for in-person Saturday and Sunday sessions cost $175 ($200 for registration after August 31). Manuscript consultations and poetry critiques were available for $45. The deadline to submit a poetry or prose manuscript for a consultation was September 8.
