Literary Awards

Prizes of $1,000 each are given annually for books of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and translation published in 2014 by authors residing west of the Mississippi River. The winners will also receive a one-year PEN Center USA membership and two tickets to the Literary Awards Gala, to be held in Beverly Hills, California, in the fall of 2015. Translation Fellowships

Grants of $12,500 and $25,000 each are given annually to translators of poetry and prose from any language into English. Applicants must have published at least 20 pages of translation in literary publications or in book form between December 1, 1999, and December 8, 2014. Using the online submission system, submit 10 to 15 pages of translation and the original work, a project description, a résumé, and the résumé of the writer of the original work with proof of eligibility by December 8. Willis Barnstone Translation Prize

A prize of $1,000 is given annually for a poem translated from any language into English. Willis Barnstone will judge. Submit up to 10 translated poems of up to 200 lines each along with each original poem. The entry fee is $5 for the first poem and $3 for each additional poem. The deadline is December 1. Best Translated Book Awards

Best Translated Book Awards

Two awards of $10,000 each will be given annually for a poetry collection and a short story collection or novel translated into English for the first time and published in the previous year. The winning author will receive $5,000; the translator or group of translators will receive $5,000. Submit five copies of a translated poetry collection or nine copies of a translated book of fiction published in 2014 by November 14. There is no entry fee. Translation Prizes
A prize of $2,500 and publication of an excerpt in Scandinavian Review is given annually for an English translation of a Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, or Swedish work of poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction. In addition, a prize of $2,000 and publication is awarded to a translator whose literary translations have not previously been published. Translations of works by Scandinavian authors born after 1800 that have not been published in English are eligible. Submit up to 25 pages of poetry or 50 pages of prose, one copy of the original work, and a curriculum vitae by June 1. There is no entry fee. Harold Morton Landon Translation Award

A prize of $1,000 is given annually to a U.S. citizen for a translation of a book of poetry from any language into English published in the United States during the previous year. Collaborations by two translators are eligible, but anthologies of work by more than two translators are not. David Hinton will judge. Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prize

A prize of $10,000 is given annually for a book translated from German into English published in the United States during the previous year. The winner also receives an all-expenses-paid trip to the award ceremony in Chicago. Publishers may submit six copies of a poetry collection, a short story collection, a novel, a novella, or an essay collection published in 2013 by January 31. There is no entry fee. A prize of $3,000 is given annually for a book-length translation of poetry from any language into English, published in the United States during the previous year. Translators may be of any nationality. Books with up to two translators are eligible. Publishers, agents, and translators may submit one copy of a book published in 2013 with a $50 entry fee by December 16. Fee waivers are available for small presses.
