Journal 32 Poems

At 32 Poems our bias is for inventive language complicated by music, form, and sentiment. As a rule we publish shorter work that can fit on a single page (32 lines or less), but we sometimes make exceptions to accommodate particularly exciting poems that run a little longer. Perhaps most importantly, our editors believe that a poem’s publication should not begin its disappearance, so we actively champion contributing poets by placing issues with other publications, nominating writers for recognition and prizes, and sharing their work outside the confines of the physical journal.

Writing that grows from a vision, a perspective, and a passion will interest us, regardless of structure or approach.

Journal The Christian Science Monitor

Since 1908, The Home Forum has been a section of The Christian Science Monitor dedicated to nonfiction and poetry. The object of the Monitor is (in the words of its founder, Mary Baker Eddy) "to injure no man, but to bless all mankind." The Monitor is a balanced news-gathering operation with its own network of reporters; it is not a church organ. The Home Form section attempts to amuse, educate, inspire, delight, engage, comfort, enlighten. It's a conversation with a well-educated and compassionate friend. The section also hosts the Monitor's single, clearly labeled, religious article.

We take our mission to be nudging along American literature, to be local but not provincial, to be experimental but not without love for our literary traditions. Although you may find writers already familiar to you in most of our issues, you will surely find others who are not. Discovering a new and compelling writer, one we'd never heard of before but whose writing comes through to us--that still seems the magic of our work.

Journal Literary Laundry

We believe that literature should strive to re-conceptualize the world and render with nuance its complexities. Literary work must evolve the poignancy with which the reader experiences life. Unfortunately, much contemporary literature, galvanized by the perverted specter of “make it new,” has prioritized novelty over potency. At best, such literature conveys an attitude in place of the intellectual wonder that underlies meaningful writing. We regard this trend as a problem and have created Literary Laundry in order to fix it.

We publish work that addresses the purpose and mystery of being, in any shape or form. We appreciate humor, if it's got depth. We appreciate experimental work, if it's not gimmicky. What we look for is a voice that is genuine, speaking with some degree of lucidity and intelligence about something that feels urgently felt.

Journal SHARKPACK Poetry Review Annual

Linguistically and thoughtfully, it is the eldritch, the pithy, the electric, the gnostic, the visceral, the well-wrought, the purposefully experimental, and the expansive that are of interest to us. Irony is not of special interest. Popular currency is not of special interest. Cliché and expletives are usually anathema. We prefer the hard-fought and sincere to the ‘sexy’ and ‘edgy.’

Slice, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit print magazine, is the brainchild of two book editors with a firsthand view of how difficult it is for new authors to have their voices heard. We aim to spark a dialogue between emerging and established writers. In each issue, a specific cultural theme becomes the catalyst for short stories, articles, interviews, and poems from renowned writers and lesser known voices alike. We're looking for anyone with a fresh voice and a compelling story to share--basically any work that really knocks our socks off.
