Ampersand Books

We are after writing the major publishing world would leave behind - the difficult, the strange, the unspoken. We are after beauty and grace. Our authors are young, full of spit and verve, most publishing for the first time. We have no preconceived notions of what kinds of writing we are interested in publishing; sometimes our choices surprise even ourselves. However, we are extremely disinterested in genre fiction and social issues.

Brick Road Poetry Press

We want to publish poets who are engaged in the writing community, including participating in poetry readings, workshops, and writers groups. The poets we are looking for are those who are avid readers (and purchasers) of contemporary poetry. We give preference to poets who are actively submitting their work to journals, magazines and contests, and who take part at writer's conferences/festivals-as an organizer, instructor or participant.

Brooklyn Arts Press

Brooklyn Arts Press (BAP) is a literary press devoted to publishing chapbooks and full-length collections of poetry, novels, lyrical short fiction, and art monographs by emerging artists. We believe we serve our community best by publishing great works of varying aesthetics side by side, subverting the notion that writers & artists exist in vacuums, apart from the culture in which they reside and outside the realm & understanding of other camps & aesthetics.

Brothel Books

Poems that make us want to throw your book across the room because it’s so damn good. Poems we like are often obsessed with myth, foreign languages, and our fathers. Bring orange groves to NYC, the epistolary language of turn-of-the-century Paris to an email exchange, or a fight with your boyfriend to pre-Roman Gaul. Poems that import and export imagery, but handle it carefully. Poems that take linguistic and personal risks feel more important to us.

Dream of Things

Dream of Things publishes memoirs, anthologies of creative nonfiction, and other nonfiction. Our anthologies are intended to fill the gap between popular anthologies that publish stories that are “short and sweet" (sometimes so saccharin-sweet that they are hard to swallow), and the Best American Essays, which are longer-form. Our goal is to publish writing that is short and deep. With depth comes authenticity. The result is stories that are easier to swallow because they are authentic, and easier to digest because they average 1,250 words in length.

Furniture Press Books

Furniture Press is a publisher of strangely poetical texts and ephemera, all which play at (but are not limited to) intertextuality and appropriation. Some want to call it poetry, but poetry can express many differing, sometimes conflicting and contradictory concepts. This is what we thrive on: the ambiguation of art and its likenesses. Our poetics follows this process closely, and we look for similar aesthetics in the writers we choose to publish and promote.

Parka Books

At Parka we believe that the people who create books should be the first to make a profit. Our goal is to create a new kind of publisher: a digital press that eschews the old model. Rather than invest heavily on paper printing, we digitally publish books at a fraction of the cost and make sure authors and readers share the savings. We believe that authors have a right to own and control their work. Our deals are only for the digital rights for a book, leaving authors open to pursue traditional book deals. We are interested in publishing great books by dedicated authors.

Shoe Music Press

Shoe Music Press publishes poetry chapbooks, in addition to three magazines: Mastodon Dentist, Nefarious Ballerina, and Penny Ante Feud. We admire accessible but unusual poetry that speaks to the human experience. We're not so much into political agendas or propagating social myths, like when a piece of writing assumes we think a certain way when we do not (e.g. global warming). We're interested in personal viewpoints mainly, poetry that tells a story in a lyrical and fascinating way.

Our mission is to develop, promote, and market underground artistic talent—those who don’t quite fit into the mainstream. SRP is proud to be the home of Assaracus, the world’s only print journal of gay male poetry and one of Library Journal's Best New Magazines. While we champion our LGBTIQ authors and artists, we are an inclusive publishing house and welcome all authors, artists, and readers regardless of sexual orientation or identity.

The Bitter Oleander Press

Our books represent the best of contemporary poetry published today in English and in translation. Even though our concentration is on contemporary poets in translation, we find some who have submitted work to our biannual journal for a lengthy period of time, to be the subject of a feature and then, if possible, a book of their work is considered for publication. We build on long-term relationships where the poetry meets our particular needs.

theNewerYork Press

We publish short experimental fiction paired with art. We like weird forms of literature: letters, receipts, lists, flash-fiction, and other literary absurdities. We do not publish any stanza-form poetry whatsoever.

We enjoy short but challenging pieces (FIVE PAGES OR LESS). Short-forms do not offer enough room to bore the reader, this allows the writer to be ridiculous or overly intense.

Our books are measured to fit in Levi’s back pockets and printed on high-quality, sustainable paper-stock. We are reader supported on Kickstarter and post stories on our website daily.

Two Lines Press

Two Lines Press gives American readers the opportunity to read some of the great work from outside our borders that they would not otherwise get to see. As the barriers between cultures continue to come down and more authors find inspiration in foreign lands, there’s all the more reason for us all to read the world.
Two Lines Press endeavors to give readers another point of entry to this important international discussion—to see that great literature isn’t created by culture in which its produced but by the talent of the writer that produces it (and the translator that brings it to English).

Wild Age Press

Wild Age Press is an independent literary publisher with a mission to publish work with an edge to it, work that you might find hitchhiking on a roadside, work that doesn’t give a damn about boundaries or borders or genre. We don’t care about aesthetics nearly as much as substance. We know that sometimes ugly things cannot and should not be made beautiful.

Wild Embers Press

We are looking for voices which carry a message of change, of love and liberation from marginalized places, unexplored spaces. We love art, photography included with narratives and are inclined to publish "experimental" work, writing which pushes the borderlands between one genre and another, disappearing divisions between us. All together.

Wiseblood Books

Wiseblood Books fosters works of fiction, poetry, and philosophy that render truths with what Flannery O'Connor called an unyielding "realism of distances." Such works find redemption in uncanny places and people; wrestle us from the tyranny of boredom; mock the pretensions of respectability; engage the hidden mysteries of the human heart, be they sources of either violence or courage; articulate faith and doubt in their incarnate complexity; dare an unflinching gaze at human beings as "political animals"; and suffer through this world's trials without forfeiting hope.

We love a good story--whether it's revealed in poetry, fiction or creative nonfiction. We are interested in fresh, fun, quirky voices. We are interested in work that explores spiritual themes, and we have a soft spot for writers who cannot get this kind of work accepted by "commercial" publishers.
