The program offers full funding. All students receive a graduate assistantship, which includes a full tuition waiver and a salary of approximately $15,000.

The program offers coursework in comics/graphic narrative, as well as in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Students may take classes in multiple genres and submit hybrid theses.

The program hosts the Spoonbill Reading Series, pairing faculty and MFA students; the Michael Kuperman Poetry Library; a monthly Nonfiction Salon; an active MFA Student Committee; extensive teacher training and the opportunity to teach creative writing for MFAs. Visiting Writers are hosted by the Humanities Institute and recent guests include Jericho Brown, Colson Whitehead, Naomi Nye, and Leila Chatti.
