Author's Bio

I live on in an antique house in the historic capital of Bolivia, Sucre. My books explore the interface between personal and political as played out in social issues. Much of my writing has focused on a systemic analysis of mass technological society, a la Lewis Mumford, Jacques Ellul, Jerry Mander, Kirkpatrick Sale, etc. New horizons: my first novel, Objetos, has been published--in 2018 in Spanish by Editorial 3600 of La Paz, Bolivia. In Spanish, it´s about an antique store in Cochabamba that sells only artifacts garnered from revolutions and social movements, and in 2019 New Village Press/NYU Press put out a generational memoir, In the Company of Rebels: A Generational Memoir of Bohemians, Deep Heads, and History Makers. Two of my books, Off the Map and Chiva, won the National Federation of Press Women book award for nonfiction, and my poetry was selected in the Persimmon Tree contest for international poets, plus a Gemini Magazine Poetry Open Honorable Mention. Here in Bolivia I have written for Los Tiempos, Correo del Sur, and Le Monde Diplomatique/Bolivia, and I adore my hundred-year old Royal typewriter.
