Author's Bio

Leland James is the author of six poetry collections, four children’s books in verse, and a book on creative writing and poetry craft. He has published over 300 poems worldwide, including The Lyric, Rattle, London Magazine, The London Reader, The South Carolina ReviewThe Spoon River Poetry Review, New Millennium Writings, The American Poetry Review, Acumen, Carillon Magazine, The Dawntreader, The Haiku Quarterly, Taj Mahal Review, The Society of Classical Poets, The American Cowboy, and The Ekphrastic Review, and many others. Leland was the winner of The Little Red Tree International Poetry Prize, the Aesthetica Creative Writing Award, the Writer’s Forum Short Poem contest, the Portland Pen Poetry Contest, and was a winner of a Atlanta Review International Publication Prize. Runners-up have been awarded in the  Sequestrum Editor's Reprint Awards, the Fish International Poetry Prize, the Welsh International Poetry Prize, and the London Magazine Poetry Contest. Honors have been awarded in the Bridport Prize, Morton Marr, The Southwest Review, and others. Leland has been featured in American Life in Poetry and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Prizes won: 

Leland was the winner of The Little Red Tree Press International Poetry Prize, the Portland Pen Poetry Contest, the Writer’s Forum short poem contest, and an International Publication Prize winner in an Atlanta Review poetry competition; also he was runners-up for the Fish International (Ireland), the Welsh, The London Magazine, and the Society of Classical Poet’s Poetry prizes. He has placed or received honors in dozens of other competitions, including, Aesthetica Magazine; Morton Marr, The Southwest Review; the Golden Quill Awards; and the Bridport Prize. Leland received the Franklin-Christoph Merit Award for Poetry in 2008 and was nominated for a 2014 Push Cart Prize.
