The Essere Writer & Artist Residency, which will be held from September 21, 2024, to October 5, 2024, offers two-week residencies in the medieval Camporsevoli estate in the Cetona province of Tuscany, Italy. The residency features programming for poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators, including craft talks by poet Naomi Shihab Nye and fiction and nonfiction writer Ann Hood, as well as individual mentorship meetings with the guest artists in residence. Residents are provided with on-site lodging in historic homes, which include private rooms and writing desks. Residents also have access to two independent studio spaces, a shared work space with comfortable antique furniture and a view of the Tuscan countryside, a library, and abundant outdoor space with meditation benches and wooded walking pathways. The cost of the residency, which includes 10 three-course dinners, is $3,500 for lodging in a private bedroom and $3,000 for lodging in a shared bedroom. Travel expenses are not included. To apply, writers submitted an artist’s statement, a curriculum vitae, a writing sample of 5 to 10 pages of poetry or prose, and one or two letters of reference with a $25 application fee by January 15, 2024. Fellowships were available based on financial need. Visit the website for an application form and more information.
