The Fiction Meets Science Residency offers up to two residencies of three to ten months annually to fiction and nonfiction writers at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg Institute for Advanced Study in Delmenhorst, Germany. Residents are provided with a private apartment and office space at the institute, where they will connect with an international community of guest scientists. Residents are expected to give one lecture or reading and to attend the weekly lectures given by the scientist fellows at the institute. Residencies include travel expenses and a monthly stipend of €2,500 (approximately $2,726). Eligible writers must have published at least one book or have a record of short works published in reputable journals and should be working on a novel, short story collection, or work of narrative nonfiction in which “science is an essential feature of the book’s themes, plot, structure, or characters.” To apply for residencies in 2025, submit a letter of intent, including information about your background and a list of publications, via e-mail (the letter should not be sent as an attachment) by May 15.
