The 2023 Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference was held from June 20 to June 25 in Minnesota’s Northwoods at Bemidji State University. The conference featured workshops, craft talks, panels, an evening reading series, and manuscript consultations for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty included poets and essayists Ross Gay, Keetje Kuipers, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, and Lia Purpura, and fiction and nonfiction writers Will Weaver and Diane Wilson. The 2023 Visiting Writers were poets Heid E. Erdrich and Sun Yung Shin. The cost of the conference, which included a four-day intensive workshop, was $795 through April 1 and $875 thereafter. Half-hour manuscript consultations were available for an additional $100. An auditor option, which included all conference events except a workshop, was available for $200. Workshops were limited to 12 participants; registration was first come, first served, beginning March 1. Housing on campus was available for $300 for six nights. Scholarships were available. Using only the online application system, writers submitted 5 to 10 pages of poetry or 10 to 20 pages of prose by May 10. There was no application fee. Visit the website for more information.
