Author's Bio

Award-winning poet and writer Annie Finch is the author of seven volumes of poetry, including The Poetry Witch Little Book of Spells and the epic poem Among the Goddesses. Other works include a poetry CD, opera libretto, memoir, feminist poetics, solo and collaborative verse theater performances, the anthology Choice Words: Writers on Abortion, anthologies including Villanelles and Measure for Measure: An Anthology of Poetic Meters, and the poetry-writing guide A Poet's Craft. Annie’s poems have appeared onstage at Carnegie Hall, in publications such as Pars Review, Poetry, and The New York Times, and in The Penguin Book of Twentieth-Century American Poetry. A recipient of the Sarasvati Award for Poetry and the Robert Fitzgerald Award, Annie earned her Ph.D from Stanford, taught as a tenured professor of creative writing at Miami University, has lectured at universities including Berkeley, Harvard, and Oxford, and served as Director of the Stonecoast MFA Program in Creative Writing.  She offers classes on scansion, meter, and Magic of Rhythmic Writing, a rhythm-based self-awareness practice for seekers of all backgrounds, in Poetry Witch Community at poetrywitch.com.
