Assistant or Associate Professor of English and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing

The Department of Languages and Literatures at Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of English and Director of the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing. Housed within the university’s College of Arts and Sciences, this position reports directly to the Department Chair. This position is on a nine (9) month contract with a summer stipend to direct the residency for MFA.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in first-year composition, upper-level courses for majors in creative writing, and graduate courses as needed.
  • The full-time, in-person faculty position includes twelve (12) credit hours per year of teaching and twelve (12) credits of course release for directing the Master of Fine Arts program.
  • The Director of the MFA in Creative Writing includes year-round planning and recruiting for a ten (10) day summer residency on campus.
  • Supervision of a part-time assistant; coordination with Admissions, Marketing, and Advising as well as budgeting and enrollment management for the program.

Qualifications:

  • MFA or Ph.D. in English (or related field) required
  • An emphasis in fiction or creative nonfiction
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching
  • Have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education
  • Possess leadership and administrative skills..
  • Will have significant publications and an active agenda of creative projects.
  • Expected to contribute to the life of Ashland University through engagement and service within the academic community.
  • Interest in translation, especially Spanish, preferred.
