University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

Lecturers–Department of English

The Department of English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, anticipates a limited number of full-time, non-tenure-track 9-month Lecturer positions to teach first-year composition and/or business and technical writing courses during the 2024-2025 academic year, with the possibility of teaching creative writing and/or literary studies in future years to meet departmental needs.  These positions are one-year appointments and covered by a collective bargaining agreement; renewal of the position is possible and contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.

Responsibilities include teaching three classes per semester, in-person on the Urbana-Champaign campus. For applicants who are interested, there is also an opportunity to teach in Haining, China, through a partnership with the Zhejiang University-University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJUI); no applicants would be required to teach at ZJUI, but the position comes with substantial additional compensation.

All candidates are required to have a PhD degree in English (or other relevant field) or an MFA in Creative Writing, plus a minimum of two years' teaching experience at the college level. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching writing at the college level.
