Isabella Stewart Gardner’s art museum, with its plain exterior enfolding an astonishing four-story Italian palazzo, rose from Boston’s Fens at the turn of the twentieth century. Chasing Beauty, written by Natalie Dykstra, is a biography of the extraordinary Gilded Age socialite who founded the Gardner Museum. In this lecture, Dykstra will lead us through the life of this eccentric, intelligent, and original woman and examine the tragedies and triumphs that culiminated in her namesake museum.
