Join us in person at the Hudson Valley Writers Center to kick off National Poetry Month with local poets Ivy Raff, Timothy Liu, & Bryan Monte as they read from their most recent books. Books will be available for purchase on site.
Ivy Raff is the author of What Remains / Qué queda (Editorial DALYA, forthcoming 2024), a bilingual English/Spanish collection that won the Alberola International Poetry Prize, and Rooted and Reduced to Dust (Finishing Line Press, 2024), hailed by Bruce Smith as “lacerating, fearless.” Individual poems appear in The American Journal of Poetry, Electric Literature’s The Commuter, Nimrod International Journal, and West Trade Review, among numerous others, as well as in the anthologies Spectrum: Poetry Celebrating Identity, Kinship: Poems on Belonging (Renard Press, 2022 & 2023), London Independent Story Prize Anthology (LISP, 2023), and Aesthetica Creative Writing Prize Annual (Aesthetica, 2023). Her Best of the Net-nominated work has garnered scholarship support from the Colgate Writers’ Conference and Under the Volcano, as well as residencies with Atlantic Center for the Arts and Alaska State Parks. She is a recipient of Hudson Valley Writers Center’s Karen Finley Scholarship for Women and Non-Binary Writers.
Bryan R. Monte is an anthropologist, lecturer, and writer. In 2021, he was shortlisted for both the Hippocrates Open Category Prize and the Gival Press Oscar Wilde Award. His poetry has appeared in The Arlington Literary Journal, Friends Journal, Italian Americana, Kaleidoscope Magazine, and South Florida Poetry Journal, and is anthologized in Gathered: Contemporary Quaker Poets (Sundress Press), Voices from the Fierce Intangible World, (SoFloPoJo Press), and The Hippocrates Prize 2021 and 2022 anthologies (The Hippocrates Press). He edits Amsterdam Quarterly and is a member of the Amsterdam (Netherlands) Friends Monthly Meeting, the Authors Guild, and the Communal Studies Association.
Timothy Liu‘s latest book of poems is Down Low and Lowdown. He has also published Luminous Debris. His new work is appearing in POETRY, FENCE, and MICHIGAN QUARTERLY REVIEW. He lives in the Hudson Valley and teaches at SUNY New Paltz and Vassar College. Find more at www.timothyliu.net
