Kramers opened in 1976 and is the first bookstore/cafe in Washington, D.C. The shop has a good stock of LGBT and local literature, as well as a healthy general selection, and is open twenty-four hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Events include author signings and readings.
Owner Ed Devereux opened Unabridged Bookstore in its current location in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood in 1980, and while it has expanded since, his vision has remained the same: to promote and sell great books. The Chatham Bookstore was established in 1977 and occupies a gracious brick storefront on Main Street in Chatham, New York. The store hosts various literary events throughout the year.
Lorelei Books is located in the historic downtown of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The loft apartment above the bookstore accommodates an audience of twenty to thirty and is ideal for poets who prefer intimate venues.

The University Book Store at the University of Washington hosts local and national authors at their Reading Allowed book events. Their Mill Creek Town Center store also hosts author events.
Located in Historic Downtown Charlottesville, New Dominion Bookshop is the oldest independent bookseller in Virginia. Their collection of new books includes many selections from fiction, nonfiction, and children’s literature.
The shop hosts author events on the weekends, with a focus on literary fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction events. For event proposals, the shop recommends reaching out about four to six months in advance.
