Growing up around hills and lakes in New Jersey, west of NYC, Buffy Aakaash has been moving between small towns, big cities and intentional communities for the last 30 years, farming, writing, growing food, doing healing work, and building communities, both urban and rural. He has been writing poetry most of his life and is greatly influenced by the beings both human and non-human in the many places he’s lived, visited, and explored— New Mexico high deserts, several big cities, the Northwest Coast, Tennessee’s hills & hollers, as well as extensive travels in Mexico. Currently he resides in Vermont’s Green Mountains with his 4-legged fellow traveler/hiker, Bodhi.
He came out as a queer man in 1988, and went on to receive his MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University.
